About
The outdoors has always inspired me and I began taking photographs in my teens after I had saved up to buy a Practika camera and 3 prime lenses.
These early photographs were nothing to write home about but my career progressed along a photographic course, as I became a TV studio cameraman working in London for MTV Europe. I spent the 90’s shooting live performances with all the major (and minor) bands of the day in MTV’s studios in Camden. However, I found London uninspiring for stills photography. I went out a few times to shoot street photography but I never came away with anything of worth. I would still take my camera with me on weekend trips and holidays but trips with friends and family rarely afforded me the time to work a composition or wait for the light to be perfect.
During this period, I did however meet my wife, start a family and in the late ‘00’s I moved to the island of Sjælland in Denmark.
Living in a small town surrounded by countryside was the inspiration I needed and I have been refining and sculpting my craft alongside my day job of working as a studio cameraman in the television industry.
Denmark although pretty, with many old villages with thatched rooved cottages, is hard to photograph. There are no majestic vistas, no mountains and few cliffs. The land and forests are extensively (and intensively) farmed. This forces me to look for vignettes within the landscape and work hard for compositions.
I am also fortunate that, through my work as a TV cameraman, I get to travel abroad, where, if work schedules permit, I explore the landscapes with my camera. These trips have taken me to far flung places like Rio de Janero, Brazil; Java, Indonesia; Tokyo, Japan and The Faroe Islands.
There are many more places I’d like to visit and over time I hope to cross many more of them off my bucket list.
When I’m not out taking photographs or running my business, I try to keep fit by rowing on my indoor rower, Cycling (mountain bike in the winter, road bike in the summer) and swimming.
I am a keen skier and I also enjoy rock climbing and bouldering.
I play guitar (very badly) and I enjoy listening to music across a broad spectrum of genres.
